Step by Step PPEC

What is PPEC?

Step by Step is a Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility dedicated to the outstanding care of medically fragile infants and children from birth to age 21.

Our center is designed to enhance the development of each child’s independence, while promoting optimal outcomes. Daily care at our center involves clinical interventions, therapy services and educational activities.

A PPEC must be licensed, and is regulated by the state. PPEC’s were introduced to Florida in 1995, meeting the growing demand for non-residential care for children with complex medical conditions.

What can I expect from a PPEC?

  • A collaborative effort between our staff, you and your child’s physician to develop and follow a plan of care directed towards optimal outcomes.
  • A safe secure environment that meets or exceeds the requirements for a non-residential medical day care center.
  • Consistent and accurate communication about my child’s plan of care.
  • Consistent and accurate communication about my child’s participation, difficulties, adaptation and progress.
  • Safe, accurate and appropriate skilled nursing care.
  • Therapy services based on my child’s approved plan of care.
  • Education and community resource information
  • Financial counseling and assistance with eligibility.
  • Basic rights under the Patient Rights Act.
